Defeating Socket Shutters

There are many times one needs to test a mains socket, but the testing is hindered by two things; The safety shutter of the socket, and the probe not always making contact with the working bits of the socket.

Alongside is a standard plugtop that has had the lid drilled to provide access to the pins. The coloured rings are pieces of punched electrical tape placed over the drilled holes.

The pins have stand-offs screwed on them to provide both extra height to bring the pins closer to the lid of the plugtop, as well as the threads of the stand-offs provide a means to hold standard meter probes in place while tests are being carried out.
